GONZAGA-MEMPHIS
THEY FOUGHT UNTIL THE END
One thing can be said about Gonzaga, they certainly did not travel all the way to Memphis , Tennessee to be put to shame in a game which they are known to control. When you think of college basketball you think of Gonzaga. They rank right up there with Duke, and most of the time they would surpass Memphis . Tuesday was the exception not the rule. Memphis closed in a win over Gonzaga with a final score of 83-72.
Gonzaga's weapon of choice is Adam Morrison. Apparently, no one can stop him. Even with a Gonzaga loss, Morrison scored 34 points in the game. This guy seemingly can not miss any free throw shots; he made all 12 when he went to the line. Memphis player Darius Washington scored 22 points while Rodney Carney had 17 points which is outstanding considering Carney is not listed as a starter for Memphis . Carney also provided great coverage of Morrison. Not an easy task, but Carney showed he was up for the challenge.
Gonzaga's loss to Memphis marks their third loss. Unfortunately for Gonzaga, these losses have been to top 10 teams and all on the road. Even though Gonzaga has some incredible strength in their stable of basketball players, this team is going to have to learn control in their more physical games. The more physical the game becomes, the more Gonzaga appears to be out of control. However, with players like Morrison, this team will certainly realize more victories than defeats.
Memphis proved with their win over Gonzaga, that this Memphis team is Final Four material. Even though Memphis appears to be a strong contender for the Final Four, Gonzaga has what it takes to improve where improvement is needed. Wait and see; this team may end up in the Final Four also.
One thing that became very evident while watching Gonzaga and Memphis sprint up and down the court, THIS is college basketball 2006. These two teams illustrated what we can look forward to for the rest of the College Basketball Season. If you're looking for sports excitement, you won't want to miss a minute of college basketball! << back
